Growing up, Tobias Rene
had a favorite hobby…music. Luckily
for him, and for us, it was a hobby that became a career.
Tobias is a native New Mexican who until recently recorded and performed
traditional Spanish music. These
days, however, he dreams in the color of Country, music that is. The country
music scene has always been a source of inspiration and admiration for Tobias. “I admire George Strait for always being true to his style
of music, and Garth Brooks for always stepping in the ring and letting all hell
break loose!” The musical path for Tobias Rene began and continues to be one of
dedication and hard work. While focused on traditional Spanish music Tobias Rene
earned the title “King of New Mexico Music” from his adoring fans due to the
astonishing hits from his first CD, “Por Primera Vez”, released in 1999. In addition to music, Tobias also lit up the big screen having landed a
co-starring role in the major motion picture “East Meets West.” He played
the role of a young outlaw in this western film. As a result, Tobias was invited
by the Hispano Chamber of Commerce to fly to Hollywood, California to join the
starring actor of “Price of Glory,” Jimmy Schmitts, for its premier. During
his stay in Hollywood, Tobias rallied with fellow actors Esai Morales (La Bamba),
comedian and actor Paul Rodriguez (Born in East LA., A Million to Juan), and Jon
Seda (Selena) for the promotion of Latino films in the movie industry.
Although Tobias’ latest musical project transitions into country music,
it corroborates his love for music as a form with no boundaries.
“My biggest dream as an artist is to be able to share my music with the
entire world. My music is a
reflection of who I am, a reflection of my soul.
To be able to share that with everyone is something special.”
The shift to country music comes from a past of musical influence that
continues to induce his creative abilities.
“As a child I grew up listening to anything from the Beatles to George
Strait. I have a profound Latin
music influence, listening to all the classic Tejano Artists, and being a child
of the 80’s o enjoyed rock/pop groups such as Dire Straits, Bon Jovi, U2, and
even Metallica.”
Metallica’s influence aside, changes are coming for Tobias and his
music. Living Dreams,
which has twelve out of fifteen tracks written by producer Gabriel Lee, holds
the workings of trust and respect between Tobias and Gabriel.
“The songs on the CD take you on a journey from the good old bar
stomping two steppers to the traditional tear jerking love ballads, and
everything in between,” says Tobias. “I
chose songs that would entice me to buy the CD just as if I was looking for a
good country music record. No more,
no less. I wasn’t worried about choosing material that would be
‘hip’ enough, or contemporary, edgy, etc…I’ve never worried about
fitting in. I am who I am. This CD is me!”
